The EU-CELAC Summit is a sign of the unprecedented levels of cooperation between Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, with trade surging by 45% since 2013 and billions of dollars mobilized for development. This partnership proves that, despite the spectre of division spreading across the world, dialogue can still find common ground between ideologically different nations on critical global issues.
The Santa Marta summit was a diplomatic disaster from start to finish, with empty chairs outnumbering meaningful agreements. Europe and CELAC spoke completely different languages on Ukraine, human rights and security, while authoritarian regimes blocked any substantive progress. The final result was predictable: no strong declaration, no roadmap, just hollow communiqués masking total failure.
