The Spin

Pro-establishment narrative

These sanctions mark a necessary step up in response to Putin's clear violation of international law and threat to European security. Russia has launched massive attacks on Ukrainian civilians and has violated EU airspace. The energy ban will finally cut off the financial lifeline funding Putin's war machine, while targeting crypto platforms closes critical loopholes Russia uses to evade restrictions.

Establishment-critical narrative

The EU's accelerated plan to phase out Russian energy will not alter Russia's course of action and will only harm working people. While efforts to push Russia out of global energy markets persist, Moscow will find ways to circumvent these sanctions. Rejecting Russian LNG outright is an unrealistic pursuit that places ideological goals ahead of the continent's economic and energy security.
