Due to the likelihood that Israel has committed human rights violations in Gaza, it is unsurprising that the EU is discussing the ramifications of such actions on its trade deal with Israel. Indeed, if Israel continues to to ignore international law in its war in Gaza, the EU will have to take more concrete steps regarding its relationship with Israel.
Though the EU's "review" of its trade deal with Israel is ultimately just posturing, the fact that one of Israel's international allies would make such statements while the country is fighting a war for its very existence is an outrageous moral distortion. Israel has followed the laws of war to the letter. Either way, Israel has many allies in Europe, and it will not be intimidated.
The EU has never been interested in holding Israel accountable, and talk of reviews and sanctions are simple measures to deceive the public. Europe has supported Israel in its genocide of Palestinians at every step of the way. Indeed, this "review" is just another desperate attempt by European leaders to maintain the appearance of moral outrage while enabling the very atrocities they claim to condemn.
