Brazilians have mobilized to protect democracy amid dangerous legislative maneuvers that threaten the rule of law. Coup plotters, including those who stormed key government buildings on Jan. 8, 2023, must be held accountable for their crimes, and it's unacceptable that corrupt lawmakers now want to shield themselves from prosecution.

The hypocrisy of these demonstrations is staggering. Artists and politicians who themselves benefited from amnesty in the past now oppose the same mercy for ordinary citizens subjected to disproportionate sentences, as well as human rights and due process violations. The left doesn't care about justice, only about their own convenience.
