    The Facts

    • A US federal judge ruled on Thursday that gray wolves in the Midwest and parts of the West should regain protection under the Endangered Species Act.

    • The wolves lost their protection in a Trump-era decision to remove them from the endangered species list.

    The Spin

    Narrative A

There's still work to be done, but this victory allows conservation groups to work on plans for coexistence between people and wolves, whose population only continues to grow thanks to earlier protections that saved them from extinction.

    Narrative B

This is overreach by the federal government and environmental activists. The gray wolves' recovery has been a success under the Endangered Species Act, but now they're encroaching on peoples' livelihoods and natural resources.
