    The Facts

    • American Bridge, a PAC that fundraises for the Democratic Party, has filed a formal complaint with the Federal Election Committee (FEC) against former president Trump.

    • The filing accuses Trump of fundraising while avoiding campaign-finance laws by not filing as a candidate for the 2024 election.

    The Spin

    Left narrative

Trump has been the subject of dozens of FEC complaints, but with the support of the three Republicans he has compiled a perfect 43-0 record against them. Trump is clearly breaking the law and the US needs an agency willing to enforce laws for the sake of democracy.

    Pro-Trump narrative

Democrats are simply trying to distract from their own failures by going after Trump yet again. Instead of focusing on providing much-needed support to American families, they're busy filing frivolous complaints.

    Narrative C

Even if the FEC uncharacteristically takes up this case, Trump will likely claim that he's "testing the waters," which wouldn't require him to file as a candidate. There are no fundraising limits on the kind of soft money that his PAC is curently raising. Once again, Trump is untouchable.
