RFK Jr. Pushes Plan to Pool US Health Data for AI Study

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. outlined a plan Monday at a MAHA Institute summit in Washington to link and share medical and lifestyle data with the government and outside researchers, in order for it to be analyzed using artificial intelligence.
"We need to use America's health data to determine whether the food we eat, the chemicals we encounter, the vaccines that we're administering" and other exposures contribute to chronic disease, Kennedy said of the population of 340 million Americans.
Kennedy said his department is pulling together information from the FDA, the CDC and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, describing Medicaid and Medicare as useful research tools.
Democratic narrative
Hoovering up the medical records of hundreds of millions of people to chase a question science settled decades ago flips research on its head. Promises that stripped-down records stay anonymous don't hold up, and the folks most likely to be re-identified are the ones already facing discrimination. A giant identifiable database with no stated safeguards is a breach and abuse waiting to happen.
Republican narrative
Medical records belong to patients, not to hospitals, insurers or contractors paid to keep them locked away. A modern, connected data system finally lets doctors see the full picture, exposes waste and fraud and answers honest questions about why chronic disease keeps climbing. When anyone can check a claim against the actual evidence, "trust the experts" stops being a substitute for proof.
Nerd narrative
There's a 35% chance that the U.S. federal government will pass legislation by 2040 to provide universal healthcare for American citizens, according to the Metaculus prediction community.
Morocco Names El Mansouri First Woman Prime Minister

King Mohammed VI appointed Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri as Morocco's first female prime minister Tuesday, receiving her at the Royal Palace in Rabat and formally tasking her with forming the country's next cabinet, the royal palace said.
The appointment followed the Sept. 23 parliamentary election, which reshaped the balance of power within the outgoing governing coalition and put PAM in a position to lead Morocco's national government for the first time since the party was founded in 2008.
Turnout fell to 38%, from about 50% in 2021, amid low registration and youth disillusionment with political institutions. The National Rally of Independents came second with 66 seats, followed by the right-wing Istiqlal with 65 and the Islamist Justice and Development Party with 54.
Pro-government narrative
El Mansouri's appointment offers a chance to turn a fragmented parliament into a stable coalition focused on delivering jobs, water and affordable housing. With youth unemployment near 37%, voters need practical solutions, greater economic opportunity and effective governance that delivers. Continued cooperation with Israel on water, food security and cyber defense can support that domestic agenda while advancing Morocco's broader strategic interests.
Government-critical narrative
Naming a woman to lead the government is historic, but symbolism alone won't answer Morocco's deeper frustrations. From high youth unemployment and poor public services to contested ties with Israel, Moroccans have made their concerns clear in the streets and at the polls. Bans, dispersals and detentions won't resolve them. Real progress will depend on whether the new government turns a historic appointment into lasting, meaningful change.
Nerd narrative
There is a 19% chance that state-based conflict between Morocco and Algeria will cause at least 1,000 deaths in a single year before 2070, according to the Metaculus prediction community.
Burnham: 'Strong Indications' of Iranian Involvement in RAF Fairford Incident

U.K. Prime Minister Andy Burnham has alleged that there are "strong indications" of Iranian involvement in the security incident at RAF Fairford, stating that "we will say more in due course."
Five men were arrested early on Sunday morning under both the Explosives Act and the Terrorism Act outside of the U.K.-U.S. air base. Police had previously stated they were "considering this from every possible angle," while U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio had claimed on Tuesday that the incident "clearly involves the hands of a foreign actor."
Officials have also confirmed that one of the men arrested called 999 himself, adding that the emergency call was placed roughly an hour before a farmer separately alerted police to a "large group of hooded and masked men" and three vans.
Pro-establishment narrative
While there's still so much to uncover, it's clear that this attack was orchestrated by Tehran. Whether directly or through its proxies, there is only one actor who would pursue such a brazen act of aggression against a site that continues to assist U.S. action in the Middle East. A clear response must be sent that neither British sovereignty nor American interests will be shaken by such brazen hostility.
Government-critical narrative
Cutting loose suspects picked up near a base that launches American bombers sends the worst possible signal. The law allows a two-week hold for a reason, and waving it away because everyone involved carries a British passport confuses paperwork with a threat assessment. It shows that the system is broken when a farmer does more to raise the alarm than the security apparatus does.
Pro-Iran narrative
Linking Tehran to the arrest of five suspects near RAF Fairford is unfounded and malicious speculation. Spreading fabricated claims like these is irresponsible and risks fueling Iranophobia, particularly in the wake of U.S. and Israeli actions against Iran. Iran would be well within its rights to pursue legal measures to protect its interests.
Flydubai Flight Diverted After Cockpit Stabbing, Pilot Arrested

A Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv made an emergency landing at Saudi Arabia's Tabuk Airport Wednesday after a violent cockpit altercation. All passengers aboard were reported safe, while Indian Captain Smit Machchhar and his co-pilot were both hospitalized with injuries.
The Boeing 737 issued a 7700 general-emergency signal before switching to 7500, indicating "unlawful interference." Flight-tracking data showed it rapidly lost about 14,000 feet (4,300 meters) before stabilizing and diverting toward Saudi Arabia.
Israeli officials initially described the incident as a possible hijacking. Later, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Machchhar was stabbed by the other pilot, who appeared to try to crash the plane. Saudi authorities arrested the suspected attacker, whose name has not been publicly released, and are questioning him.
Narrative A
What looked like a hijacking was likely a Jihadist terror attack aimed at crashing a plane full of passengers. Thankfully, disaster was narrowly averted by the courage of the Indian pilot, who fought back despite being stabbed, Israeli passengers and an extra flight crew who overpowered the attacker and stabilized the aircraft. Their heroism saved lives, while tighter pilot checks and security safeguards should help prevent another such threat.
Narrative B
It's too early to definitively call this terrorism. The UAE aviation authority has confirmed a security incident that was brought under control; however, investigators continue to determine its causes and circumstances, including operational and security factors. With the investigation ongoing, the public should avoid circulating unofficial claims or pre-empting its findings.
Nerd narrative
There's a 33% chance that Israel and Saudi Arabia will normalize relations during Donald Trump's second presidency, according to the Metaculus prediction community.
Supreme Court Allows Third-Country Deportations to Resume

The Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled that the Trump administration could resume deporting migrants to countries other than their own while the justices weigh whether the policy is legal. The apparent 6-3 order was unsigned.
The order temporarily lifts lower court requirements that migrants get a chance to object before their removal to nations to which they have no ties. The court's three liberal justices noted they would have denied the government's request.
The justices also granted review and scheduled oral arguments for December, asking the parties to address whether lower courts had jurisdiction and whether the policy violates due process or international protections against torture.
Left narrative
Shipping people off to nations they've never set foot in, places the U.S. State Department itself flags for torture, is unambiguous cruelty. Nobody facing persecution or death should lose the chance to testify before a judge, and an unexplained emergency order strips that right away. A policy built on terrorizing vulnerable people is illegal and deserves to be struck down.
Right narrative
Final removal orders mean final, and when a home country slams the door, a lawful alternative destination keeps immigration enforcement from collapsing into permanent limbo. Lower-court judges manufactured endless delays that let deportable migrants stay indefinitely, and the high court has rightly ended that stall. Enforcing the law as written is exactly what voters want.
Nerd narrative
There is an 11% chance the U.S. will establish a government program rewarding information leading to deportations before Jan. 3, 2027, according to the Metaculus prediction community.
Moonshot Reviews Kimi AI After Bioweapon Jailbreak Found

Chinese AI developer Moonshot told the BBC on Wednesday that it is carrying out an internal review after the security firm Mindgard bypassed safeguards on its Kimi K2.6 and K3 Swarm, prompting the agents to describe biological weapons production and assassination planning.
Mindgard identified the vulnerabilities in July and emailed Moonshot on July 27, before publishing a blog post about the issue on Sept. 12. Mindgard said Moonshot had only responded recently, after the BBC contacted the company for comment.
Mindgard researcher Jim Nightingale reported that he jailbroke Kimi by eliciting the AI's system instructions and exploiting its custom memory by placing the jailbreak in a local DWS directory inside Kimi's authentication tree. He then used new system instructions to create an unrestricted persona called "Apeiron," Ancient Greek for "unlimited" or "boundless."
Industry-critical narrative
Polite policy language stapled onto a system means nothing when a couple of stray phrases can strip every guardrail and hand over weapons recipes on demand. Moonshot ignoring this for so long is the real scandal, especially when its agents can act, code and spread the compromise. Safety has to be built into the architecture, not wished into existence.
Pro-industry narrative
Moonshot handles its systems' safety seriously. Security, however, is a defined process private advisories, a dedicated address, version details, reproduction steps and an impact assessment. Instead of hastily advertising vulnerabilities through flashy write-ups, Moonshot pursues coordinated disclosures that wait until a fix is readily available.
US Treasury to Auto-Enroll 60 Million Kids in Trump Accounts

The U.S. Treasury Department said Tuesday that it will automatically enroll millions of children in Trump Accounts under new rules, creating accounts for more than 60 million additional children under age 18 and removing the requirement that parents sign up.
Temporary regulations published in the Federal Register will take effect Sept. 30, with auto-enrollment beginning Oct. 1 for every child under 18 who has a Social Security number and no existing account.
About 73 million children are eligible for the program and roughly seven million have enrolled so far. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told the House Financial Services Committee this month that the total could reach 70 million "because we will go to auto-enroll."
Pro-establishment narrative
Handing every American child an ownership stake in the country's economy is the boldest upgrade to the social contract in generations. Auto-enrollment finally fixes the paperwork trap that left the overwhelming majority of eligible kids locked out, and it points long-term savings into cheap, broad index funds instead of gimmicks.
Establishment-critical narrative
Locking every child into a Trump account comes with disadvantages. Parents' contributions get hit going in and again at ordinary income rates coming out, with penalties punishing anyone who needs the cash early. Brokerage accounts and 529s simply beat it, so most families should grab the free deposit and invest their real money elsewhere.
Narrative C
It's great that the Trump administration is finally auto-enrolling these children, but it still hasn't gone far enough. Parents still need to go online and click a button in order to claim the $1,000. And giving all these accounts to Bank of New York and Robinhood passes up the opportunity to provide local bankers and investment advisors with the business.
UK: MI5 Alleges Universities Aiding Chinese Espionage Research

MI5 issued an espionage alert Wednesday stating that the China General Technology Research Institute (CGTRI), also translated as the China Academy of General Technology, has "very strong ties" to China's Ministry of State Security, its civilian intelligence service.
The Security Service said the primary purpose of CGTRI is to fund academic research that directly improves MSS technical capability for espionage. More than 100 U.K.-linked academics have contributed to projects funded by the MSS through CGTRI.
Research funded by CGTRI covered AI, cybersecurity, covert communications systems and steganography – the practice of concealing messages. MI5 said some academics may not have been aware of the ultimate source of the funding.
Pro-establishment narrative
Funding trails that run back to a state security apparatus are highly concerning and shows the extent of China's espionage. The scale and ambition of Beijing's intelligence operations are unmatched, reaching into parliament, councils, businesses and even academic labs. Pretending otherwise leaves researchers exposed and hands over British-made technology to those who want to undermine the country.
Pro-China narrative
The "Chinese espionage" panic is a manufactured smear, pushed by the very network that got caught running planet-wide surveillance on allies and ordinary people alike. Not one shred of verifiable proof accompanies these accusations, just vague labels slapped on anyone Chinese. Branding normal academic cooperation and as spycraft wrecks scientific cooperation for nothing.
Nerd narrative
There is a 10% chance that, if China invades Taiwan before 2035, the U.K. will respond with military forces, according to the Metaculus prediction community.
Antarctic Sea Ice Hits Third-Lowest Winter Peak

Antarctic sea ice reached its annual winter peak on Sept. 14 at 17.59 million square kilometers, the third-lowest maximum since satellite monitoring began in 1979, according to provisional data from the US National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC).
The peak fell roughly 1 million square kilometers below the long-term average maximum, an area about twice the size of Spain. Confirmation of the peak means the four lowest Antarctic winter maxima on record have all occurred in the past four years.
Walt Meier, a senior scientist at the NSIDC at the University of Colorado, said the center delayed declaring the maximum because there was "a lot of potential variability" at that stage of the cycle, but considered it reached after ice began declining.
Climate-concerned narrative
Four straight years of the lowest Antarctic winter ice on record is a pattern, not a fluke, and the ocean warming behind it is already here. Less ice means a darker Southern Ocean soaking up more heat, weakened ice shelves and the glaciers they hold back sliding faster toward the sea. Krill, algae and emperor penguins lose the platform their whole food web depends on. The climate problem is here now.
Climate-skeptic narrative
Zoom out from some bad winters and the Antarctic picture looks far less apocalyptic. Sea ice slowly increased from 1979 to 2014, natural variation drove the swings and even the NSIDC has noted that extreme highs and lows are not unusual. One recent dip cannot erase decades of variability or turn every fluctuation into proof of climate catastrophe.
Establishment-critical narrative
Even if climate change poses real risks to things such as Antarctic sea ice, pouring trillions into policies that barely move the temperature needle for a century carries a huge opportunity cost. That same money could do far more for nutrition, health, education and poverty, transforming millions of lives. Climate policy should be judged by what it delivers, and what humanity sacrifices to fund it.
Fed Watchdog Finds No Crime in HQ Renovation Overruns

The U.S. Federal Reserve's inspector general said Wednesday that it found no reasonable grounds to believe federal criminal law was violated in the renovation of the central bank's Washington headquarters, and it identified no administrative misconduct.
The 120-page report faulted the Fed board for failing to establish a guaranteed maximum price four years into construction and for insufficient internal project governance, concluding the board had not effectively executed its contract.
Construction costs for the Eccles Building and 1951 Constitution Avenue Building more than doubled, rising from an estimate of about $1.3 billion in 2020 to roughly $2.4 billion, with completion now scheduled for December 2027.
Anti-Trump narrative
The watchdog's findings knock the legs out from under the Trump administration's political vendetta that was never about construction costs in the first place. Chasing Fed officials with prosecutors is just a distraction from tariff chaos and things that are actually hurting the economy. Real fixes come from Congress writing better transparency rules, not from threats aimed at central bankers who won't bend on interest rates.
Pro-Trump narrative
Blowing past the budget by hundreds of millions with no guaranteed maximum price years into construction is a management failure so glaring that no clean bill of health can excuse it. Anyone who can't keep a single building project under control has no business steering the nation's interest rate policy. Accountability here means Powell must step down. Incompetence with public money must carry consequences.
