The dispute began in February when Secretary of Defense (War) Pete Hegseth designated Anthropic a supply chain risk after negotiations collapsed over Anthropic's demand that its Claude systems not be used for autonomous weapons or mass surveillance of Americans, versus the Pentagon's insistence on reserving the right to use the technology for "all lawful uses."
In her 59-page ruling, Lin wrote that the government's actions "were based on a desire to make a public example out of Anthropic for its 'arrogance' in criticizing the government, not based on any articulable basis to believe that Anthropic would actually sabotage its model."

Jakarta Protests Erupt Over Anti-Corruption Demands

A study published in the journal Science on Thursday found that El Niño events over the past 40 years were stronger than at any point in the previous 1,000 years, with variability in the eastern Pacific now 36.5% greater than in the pre-industrial era.
The research, led by University of Michigan paleoclimatologist Julia Cole, analyzed living and fossil corals from the Galápagos Islands — said to be at the heart of El Niño activity — measuring strontium-to-calcium ratios and oxygen isotopes to reconstruct ocean temperatures spanning roughly 1,000 years.
