What is occurring can only be called Trump Derangement Syndrome, as the various instances of vandalism in D.C. can only be pinned on hatred of the president. The revitalization of D.C. has encouraged many to come out and vandalize monuments around the nation's capital. Defacing a war memorial is a new low and an example must be made. Endless media fearmongering against Trump has emboldened criminals.
Democratic narrative
The push to make this into a political moment is premature. The accused is very likely a mentally unwell individual with an incoherent motive, and the last time Trump's Justice Department charged someone with vandalizing a D.C. landmark, the case collapsed. Farris faces real charges for real vandalism, but the reflexive outrage machine that cried wolf on the Reflecting Pool has zero credibility left.
