The Spin

Pro-Trump narrative

Military strikes on narco-terrorist vessels are exactly the kind of decisive action needed to protect American lives. These drug cartels are fundamental American enemies, a fact reflected in their terrorism designation and their vile trade that floods U.S. communities with narcotics and violence. In the face of such a grave threat, military action is undoubtedly warranted.

Anti-Trump narrative

Bombing boats in international waters has killed civilians while doing nothing to stop drug trafficking, as the military pressure pushes cartels to adapt, diversify and expand their operations. If Trump really wants to tackle drug trafficking, he should consider a strategy built on rural development, manual eradication and financial interdiction to undermine its incentive structure.
