Version 7.7.2
Trump handing Eduardo Bolsonaro a green card while the man is freshly convicted of coercion by Brazil's Supreme Court is a blatant abuse of immigration policy for political loyalty. The conviction found Eduardo actively worked in the U.S. to pressure Brazilian institutions during his father's coup trial — and now he's being rewarded with permanent residency. Tying trade tariffs and immigration benefits to defending a foreign ally's legal troubles puts American consumers and businesses on the line for zero national gain.
Brazil's ruling left spent years courting the EU, U.S. Democrats and global NGOs to isolate Bolsonaro while he was president, then turned around and sentenced Eduardo Bolsonaro for doing the exact same thing from the other side. The conservative alliance between Washington and the Bolsonaro family — focused on designating narco-gangs as terrorist organizations and building real security cooperation — represents legitimate political partnership. Calling it treason when the right seeks foreign support is pure selective outrage.
