Version 7.7.2
Reforming PIP must center on fixing a genuinely broken, dehumanizing system instead of slashing spending on disabled people who depend on it to survive. The Timms review makes clear that the assessment process has caused real harm, with claimants describing it as soul-destroying, and any overhaul driven by budget cuts will repeat past failures. Sustainable reform means rebuilding trust with disabled people first, not using the benefits bill as a political football.
Whilst the Timms's review exposes a system ready to explode, Labour remains too feinthearted to slash the welfare bill and free up the money the country desperately needs. Post-COVID data clearly state that being taken for a ride with welfare spending now costing more than all tax revenue, and yet the government will not implement the change needed, thanks to a blind commitment to ideology over reality.
