Trump-Backed Ogles Ousted By Hatcher in Tennessee Primary
Did Hatcher win because rural voters wanted a relatable candidate or because Ogles was too scandal-ridden?

Republican narrative
Hatcher's win proves voters respond to practical, grounded candidates. But this was no defeat for Trump because the redrawn 5th District is largely farmland, where Hatcher is more familiar to voters. Outside money also overwhelmed Ogles. Trump has already endorsed Hatcher for the general election and Republicans are ready to keep this seat.
Democratic narrative
Ogles was a scandal-soaked embarrassment. He's facing federal fraud investigations and accusations of resume fabrications. His nasty culture-war social media presence pushed Tennesseans to their limit. Even Trump's endorsement couldn't save him, and it looks like Democrats may be able to compete for a typically red seat.
