- U.S. President Donald Trump said Wednesday that "massive" oil, gas and mineral exploration is preparing to begin in Greenland, writing on Truth Social that the island is "our new and beautiful Greenland." He gave no details on American involvement in the planned extractions.
- Trump said experts believe Greenland's easily available oil exceeds that of nearly any other land, and he called the island "second to none" for U.S. and European security, saying any future attack on the U.S. would have to cross it.
- Researchers have said extracting Greenland's minerals would be difficult and costly because many deposits lie in remote areas beneath a mile-thick ice sheet. Greenland stopped issuing new oil and gas exploration licenses in 2021.
