Trump Replaces Noem With Mullin as Homeland Security Chief

Was Noem a solid DHS head with unfortunate PR failures or did she represent a classic case of Trump administration mismanagement?

The Spin

Pro-Trump narrative

Noem delivered spectacular results at the border and earned a promotion to lead the Shield of the Americas initiative, but accusations of personal controversies, whether they're fair or not, have become a burden on the important work that DHS must get done. Mullin, a fresh face with a proven MAGA track record, will bring the courage and wisdom needed to advance border security and stop illegal drugs from flooding America.

Anti-Trump narrative

Noem's disastrous mismanagement finally caught up with her after she lied under oath about a self-promotional ad campaign and presided over systematic violations of federal court orders. Mullin isn't even legally eligible to serve as acting secretary and has zero military experience despite romanticizing war. Trump, who stands responsible for everything that goes on in his government, has replaced one unqualified appointee with another.
