Netanyahu carries an active ICC arrest warrant for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity, and that warrant deserves to be taken seriously. Accountability under international law can't be a pick-and-choose exercise — if the rules-based order means anything, it applies to everyone equally. The people of Gaza have paid an enormous price, and dismissing a sitting mayor's effort to honor that legal process as mere politics doesn't make the warrant disappear.

Mamdani's arrest threat is selective outrage. Leaders like Raisi, Erdoğan and Putin have walked into New York for years without a peep from city hall. No mayor has legal authority to detain a sitting head of state protected by the 1947 Headquarters Agreement, and Mamdani has already admitted he's not sure he can do it. This is just political theater with a single target, and that kind of selective enforcement cheapens international law rather than defending it.
