Trump Orders Probe Into Oil Companies Over Gas Prices

Is this holding corporations accountable for price gouging or just performing political theater?

The Spin

Pro-Trump narrative

Big oil companies are pocketing the difference as crude prices fall, and that's straight-up gouging American consumers at the pump. The DOJ needs to investigate why gas prices aren't dropping as fast as the cost of oil. Walmart and other major corporations sitting on billions in profits have no excuse to keep squeezing everyday Americans.

Anti-Trump narrative

This fits a pattern — Trump's own policies create real costs, then he publicly pressures the companies absorbing them — Bezos, Mattel, Walmart, and now oil companies — to deny it rather than pass it on. Tariffs didn't disappear because Walmart stayed quiet; Walmart's 3% margins left no room to eat them. Bullying doesn't rewrite supply chain math.
