Trump Considers Buying Chagos Islands From Mauritius
Is the Diego Garcia deal a reckless security blunder or the only way to protect a vital U.K.-U.S. military asset?

Handing the Chagos Islands to Mauritius, a Beijing ally, is a reckless threat to a military base critical to both U.S. and U.K. national security. The lease would offer no real protection and leave it exposed to their mutual adversaries in China and Russia. For the sake of both countries, the U.K. must stop this deal, lest it put critical capabilities in jeopardy.
Opposition narrative
The Chagos Islands deal is the only legally sound way to keep the Diego Garcia base operational and out of reach from China or any other hostile nation. Without this treaty, the U.K. would lose all legal grounds to retain control, opening avenues for exploitation by foreign powers. Blocking the treaty, therefore, doesn't protect the base; rather, it puts it at serious risk.
