- U.S. President Donald Trump approved the execution of former Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan by U.S. Army firing squad, chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell announced Monday, adding that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth made the recommendation.
- "The Secretary of the Army will set the time and place of the execution," Parnell wrote on X, saying "judgement day" for Hasan had come. Hegseth responded to the announcement with a one-word post: "Justice."
- Hasan, an Army psychiatrist born in Virginia to Palestinian parents, opened fire at a Fort Hood soldier readiness center on Nov. 5, 2009, killing 13 people and wounding 32 others. He was shot by responding officers and paralyzed from the waist down.
