Was this a necessary correction or an act of government censorship?

The Spin

Pro-Trump narrative

Federal historical sites should uplift Americans, not push divisive ideology disguised as scholarship. Under the prior administration, racial identity dictated how history was told, fostering indoctrination rather than education. The Trump administration will correct this egregious error by restoring an honest, achievement-focused interpretation that the country needs.

Anti-Trump narrative

Removing the Freedom and Slavery exhibit overnight — literally under the cover of darkness — was a blatant act of censorship. The exhibit was built through rigorous scholarly review and shone a light on the nine enslaved people in Washington's household. Removing this erases these people from collective history and avoids facing the harsher aspects of America's past.
