Tesla to End Cybertruck Production in 2027 for Cybercab

The Facts
- Tesla will wind down Cybertruck production at its Gigafactory Texas around the middle of 2027 to free capacity for the Cybercab, CEO Elon Musk said Friday on X. The pickup's lead engineer referred to the truck in the past tense in a follow-up post.
- Tesla stopped taking orders for the entry-level Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive Cybertruck and raised prices on the remaining trims, with the Premium AWD starting at $92,490 and the Cyberbeast at $102,490. It was the second increase since August.
- Tesla sold 38,965 Cybertrucks in 2024 and 20,237 in 2025, with 11,586 delivered through the first three quarters of 2026, well short of the 250,000 annual units Musk predicted. Industry estimates put total deliveries near 70,000.

Swapping a low-volume halo truck for the higher-volume Cybercab is simply smart capital allocation. The Cybertruck earned its keep as a rolling laboratory, proving out hardware and design that carry straight into the next generation. Pointing the factory floor now at autonomy, robotics and energy is where the real growth sits for Tesla.
Industry-critical narrative
A truck that never clicked with real truck buyers and turned into a rolling political statement tied to Trump and DOGE was always headed for the scrap heap. Hiking prices on a product already marked for death is just squeezing the last dollars out of a flop. Trading it for a robotaxi that cannot scale anytime soon reads like the slow fade of a car company.
