Sam Nelson, a 19-year-old student from California, died of a drug overdose on May 31, 2025, after he spent months repeatedly seeking advice from ChatGPT on Xanax, alcohol, and cough syrups usage. His interactions with ChatGPT concerning drug dosages reportedly began in November 2023.
