Taliban Reportedly Open Fire on Afghan Women's Rights Protest

Was the U.S. mission in Afghanistan imperial exploitation or does cutting aid now make America complicit in Taliban oppression?

    The Spin

    Pro-establishment narrative

Taliban rule has led to outright gender apartheid. Since their takeover, the rights of women continue to deteriorate as any and all pushback is violently suppressed. The West must maintain the pressure on Afghanistan and cannot countenance any legitimization of this Taliban regime. There must be consequences for these violent attacks on protestors.

    Establishment-critical narrative

These stories are amplified by the media to bolster imperial ambitions while bombing civilians and propping up corrupt governments. The US war machine killed tens of thousands of Afghan civilians and displaced millions, making a mockery of any feminist justification for occupation. The media cares more about a narrative then actually helping women.
