Is Syria's border buildup a legitimate security measure or a U.S. proxy move to threaten Hezbollah and regional resistance?

Syria's border reinforcement is solely a defensive measure to combat arms and drug smuggling and prevent militants from infiltrating the country during a period of intense regional instability. Only by deploying troops in this manner can Damascus effectively achieve these aims and safeguard the country's sovereignty from any potential threats to its security.
Government-critical narrative
Syria's military buildup along Lebanon's border is an obvious ploy to threaten Hezbollah and block its supply lines under the guise of anti-smuggling operations. This deployment should serve as yet another example of how the new Damascus authorities have become U.S. puppets, deploying extremist fighters to intimidate Lebanon while cracking down on Palestinian factions.
