Techno-optimist narrative
The Terafab project is the boldest leap toward a galactic civilization ever attempted, combining logic, memory and advanced packaging under one roof to produce a terawatt of compute annually. While this endeavor is certainly ambitious, SpaceX, xAI and Tesla have all previously done what experts have considered impossible, and are prepared to do so again.
Techno-skeptic narrative
Given that Tesla has zero semiconductor manufacturing experience, a gutted chip talent base and a core auto business bleeding revenue, this is the worst possible moment to bet tens of billions on the most unforgiving industry going. When coupled with the outlandish goals and ambitions of those driving it, Musk may have bitten off more than he can chew.
