Version 7.7.2
In violation of Russia's laws, Durov's Telegram has done nothing to prevent the platform from being used to prepare and coordinate acts of sabotage and terrorism across the Russian Federation. Similarly, it has taken no action against fraud, child pornography, LGBT propaganda and other illegal materials.
Under President Vladimir Putin, Russia has pursued a broad, multi-front campaign to tighten its grip on the internet. Popular social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and X are completely banned while YouTube is heavily restricted. The same applies for messaging apps: WhatsApp and Viber are banned while Telegram and Signal are restricted. The charges against Durov are the latest example of this effort.
