Version 7.18.2
When a government refuses to condemn chants about killing farmers, the threat is real and offering refuge is the decent and humane response. Spending a modest sum on outreach makes sense if frightened families simply don't know the door is open or how to apply. Protecting a targeted minority from violence and intimidation is exactly what a refugee program exists to do, whatever the color of the victims' skin.
A refugee program that serves one ethnic group while shutting out war survivors and interpreters betrays the whole point of asylum. The very fact that Washington needs an ad campaign to attract supposedly persecuted Afrikaners makes a mockery of the entire narrative of their desperate plight. Spending taxpayer money to drum up demand only deepens the contradiction. Real need, not politics, should decide who gets protection.
