Chuck Edwards deserved more than a censure — his pattern of harassment toward young female staffers, his lack of remorse and his deliberate deletion of incriminating messages made him unfit to serve. Representing constituents while skipping votes to pursue staffers is misconduct and a betrayal of office. Censure was never enough; resignation was the only acceptable outcome.

The Ethics Committee never found Edwards guilty of a direct violation of sexual harassment rules — censure was pushed through on vague conduct standards, an extraordinarily harsh punishment that went well beyond what the evidence supported. Edwards chose to withdraw from reelection rather than drag his constituents through a prolonged political circus.
