Renee Good's Family Files Two Lawsuits Filed Over ICE Killing
The Facts
- Two federal lawsuits were filed Thursday in U.S. District Court in Minnesota over the Jan. 7 killing of Renee Good, a 37-year-old Minneapolis mother of three who was shot by an ICE agent during Operation Metro Surge.
- One suit names the United States as the sole defendant under the Federal Tort Claims Act, alleging wrongful death, battery, assault, false imprisonment, negligence and emotional distress. It seeks a bench trial before a judge.
- The second complaint, which runs 149 pages and seeks a jury trial, names Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent Jonathan Ross along with White House advisor Stephen Miller, former Homeland Security director Kristi Noem, several other prominent Trump administration immigration figures and 10 unidentified federal agents.

No prosecutor has stepped up and no agency has taken responsibility since a mother of three died because a masked agent decided a driver trying to leave a terrifying scene deserved bullets. This is the best way for the Good family to get justice and for the officials who designed a campaign of intimidation against Somali and Hispanic neighborhoods to be back in the spotlight.
Right narrative
Suing Trump administration figures five weeks before the midterms looks like campaign messaging, not a wrongful-death claim. None of the cabinet secretaries named in the suit had anything to do with this incident. Good refused lawful commands while behind the wheel of a heavy vehicle and then accelerated her vehicle toward an officer, who was left with no choice but to shoot.
