Version 7.7.2
Britain's National Crime Agency deserves kudos for exposing the well-coordinated global network of men drugging and sexually assaulting women, and even sharing abuse videos and tips on online forums. The identification of over 270 persons and the arrest of several perpetrators show that law enforcement is doing exactly what is expected of them.
Arresting just 8 people amid a supposed "global" drug-rape network feels more performative than transformative. From the Pelicot case in France to this latest investigation, it's increasingly clear that isolated police operations alone cannot deliver lasting change. Officials also need address the root causes, such as the platforms hosting these predators who bear real responsibility. Clearly, more needs to be done.
