Democracy is again on the ballot in Portugal. Chega embodies the surge of far-right populism that feeds on fear and intolerance, shrinking the space for dialogue, freedom, and the rule of law. Portuguese voters have rejected establishment-driven politics and are demanding sovereignty, security, and national renewal — priorities mainstream parties have long dismissed.
