The Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Narges Mohammadi, has been sentenced by the Iranian authorities to an additional seven and a half years in prison amid a crackdown on dissent by Tehran, according to her lawyer, Mostafa Nili.

In a thread on X, Nili confirmed that Mohammadi had been taken to Branch 1 of the Mashhad Revolutionary Court on Saturday for a hearing, following which her sentence was issued and formal notice given.

Mohammadi's sentence included six years' imprisonment for conspiracy and collusion, as well as a year and a half for "promotional activities." Additionally, the court imposed a two-year travel ban from leaving Iran and exiled Mohammadi to Khusf County for the same duration.

Her sentencing followed a hunger strike Mohammadi began on Feb. 2, which ended after six days on Sunday. The Narges Foundation, however, reported that three days before ending the strike, Mohammadi was transferred to a hospital due to her deteriorating health, but later returned to detention by the Ministry of Intelligence before the completion of her treatment.

Authorities arrested Mohammadi in December for protesting against the Iranian government at a ceremony honoring Khosrow Alikordi, an Iranian lawyer and human rights advocate, where footage recorded Mohammadi demanding justice for Alikordi and others.

Mohammadi was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2023 for "her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and her fight to promote human rights and freedom for all." Prior to Sunday's sentencing, she was serving a 13-year and nine-month sentence for collusion against the state.
