Nigeria's interfaith accord marks a genuine turning point — more than 50 Muslim and Christian leaders committed to ending hate speech, scrapping infidel rhetoric and building real coordinating structures across the country. The Muslim World League-backed conference also launched a youth peace initiative spanning all six geopolitical zones. Religious division is a political weapon, and Nigerians deserve leaders judged on competence and governance, not faith.
Government-critical narrative
Signed accords mean nothing when Christians are being massacred on Palm Sunday and Easter, kidnapped from churches and driven from ancestral lands at a rate 4.4 times higher than Muslims. A prominent Islamic cleric was still openly calling Christians infidels and demanding Muslim-Muslim political dominance just days before the interfaith pact was signed. Diplomatic pageantry can't substitute for prosecutions, accountability and genuine security.
