Nigeria Kills Over 40 Militants in Airstrikes
The Facts
- The Nigerian military said Monday that an Oct. 10 airstrike by the air component of Operation Hadin Kai killed more than 40 Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters, including a senior commander, at Badu village in Borno State's Guzamala area.
- Military spokesperson Mohammed Goni said intelligence indicated the fighters were planning coordinated attacks on troops and belonged to ISWAP's Murabitun unit. Two vehicles and about 20 motorcycles were destroyed, with assessment ongoing.
- Separately, gunmen ambushed a convoy of traders traveling under military escort to a market in Zamfara state on Saturday, killing at least 20 people, a witness and a military source said Monday. Nineteen people were wounded, according to the military source.
