The Spin

Techno-optimist narrative

SABR is a game-changer for prostate cancer patients, delivering the same powerful treatment more quickly with pinpoint accuracy that spares healthy tissue. This rollout, a massive, 48-center operation freeing up tens of thousands of annual appointments, will cut wait times so men can get back to their lives faster. The £70 million in government investment shows the U.K. is delivering the bold, modern cancer care that patients deserve.

Techno-skeptic narrative

SABR's convenience shouldn't overshadow the urinary side effects that peak in the first month post-treatment, with men who already have moderate to severe urinary symptoms facing odds more than 10 times higher of concerning frequency after the procedure. Standard alpha-blocker protocols don't adequately address these storage-related symptoms. This operation shouldn't be rushed without robust symptom protocols.
