Newsom Says He Won't Run in 2028 if Harris Enters Race
Is this a selfless play to protect a shared coalition or a surrender that denies voters a real contest?

Stepping aside for Kamala Harris is the smart, selfless play. Two Californians with the same donors, the same friends and the same base clawing at each other would be a gift to every rival in the field. A primary should be about meeting the moment and serving a greater good, not burning down a shared coalition for ego.
Right narrative
Deferring to a candidate who already ran twice and lost is exactly the surrender-to-seniority thinking that keeps Democrats losing. Harris had her shot — the party owes voters a real contest, not a cleared field handed to the biggest name in the polls. Bowing out before a single vote is cast looks less like sacrifice and more like dodging a fight that can't be won.
