The Eurovision Song Contest has lost its neutrality, and Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS made the right call by pulling out for 2027. With Gaza's humanitarian crisis deepening and press freedom under fire, staying in would betray the values of independence and trustworthiness that public broadcasting demands. Eurovision was built to unite, not to rubber-stamp the participation of nations waging large-scale military conflicts.
The Netherlands boycotting Eurovision over Israel reeks of selective outrage — where was that moral courage when Britain was waging an illegal war in Iraq during the 2003 and 2006 contests? Turkey won Eurovision in 2003 just two months after invading Iraqi Kurdistan, and nobody batted an eye. Applying a standard exclusively to the Jewish state that gets waived for every other nation is less principle, more bigotry.
