Deadly Myanmar Warehouse Blast Kills Dozens

A deadly explosion claimed dozens of lives in Kaung Tat village, Myanmar on Sunday. The blast reportedly involved explosions being stored by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA).

The blast occurred around noon local time Sunday at a warehouse in Kaungtup village, Namhkam township, Shan State, about 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) south of the Chinese border. The TNLA said the facility stored gelignite for use in mining and stone quarrying operations.

More than a dozen rescue and charity groups used excavation machinery Monday to recover bodies from the site. Residents of the roughly 200-household village said they had not been informed that explosives were being stored there.
