The Spin

Narrative A

The experiences of Georgia and Ukraine within the framework of the CIS is telling of how Russia views its so-called partners in this association. Besides, Moldova has not contributed to the CIS in some time so it only makes sense to formally end its engagement. This is especially the case as Moldova moves down the path of European integration.

Pro-Russia narrative

While Moldovan President Maia Sandu has distanced relations with Russia for some time now, this latest move to formally withdraw from the CIS is nonetheless regrettable. There is nothing to be lost by maintaining economic ties and cooperation.
