Version 7.7.2
Mexico's economy is firing on all cylinders, posting 1.5% GDP growth in Q2 2026, the strongest quarterly gain since late 2020. Elsewhere, exports surged by 12.2%, Foreign Direct Investment hit an all-time high of $23.6 billion and real wages climbed by 6.7%. The performance positions Mexico's economy well for a prosperous second half of the year.
Mexico's economic performance on paper is positive, but is fundamentally misleading. Rather than the beginning of sustained growth, the bump in the quarter was largely World Cup-driven, and once that fades, weak domestic demand resurfaces. The result is that full-year growth is still projected at just 1.2%, hardly a sign of a booming economy.
