Massive Attack's ban is a blatant act of political suppression, punishing artists for standing against illegal occupation. Detaining musicians, seizing passports, and permanent bans simply for holding a recognized state’s flag sends a chilling message: authoritarian enforcement of silence is alive and well.
Singapore was simply enforcing its own law — foreign artists must respect its strict rules on political displays, no exceptions. The organizer had acknowledged, as a licensing condition, that no flags would be displayed. Enforcing rules consistently is exactly what a sovereign nation should do.
