Blaming far-off capitals for every massacre is a convenient dodge when credible evidence never surfaces and villagers keep dying. Grand alliance summits and promises mean little while extremist violence keeps climbing and the Sahel remains the deadliest place on earth for terrorism. Snatching lawyers and opposition politicians off the street only hollows out whatever legitimacy remains and does nothing to make ordinary people safer.
This meeting sends a clear message: homegrown Sahel security must replace decades of failed foreign-led "counterterrorism." A strong joint force, coordinated diplomacy and renewed ECOWAS talks show the alliance is building real regional leverage. Foreign powers arming and training militants should face accountability for the bloodshed, not governments determined to reclaim their own territory.
