Mali's military junta has proven it cannot protect its own soldiers, with more than 50 troops killed in a single ambush near Anefis by JNIM and Tuareg separatists. The Russian Africa Corps mercenaries had already reached the safety of Gao when the attack unfolded, leaving Malian troops exposed, overwhelmed, and executed. A partnership that costs Mali its soldiers while shielding foreign fighters raises serious questions about who truly benefits.
