This is exactly what accountability looks like. Demand letters, Treasury collections and criminal charges against more than 160 defendants show the free ride is finally over. Money meant to keep small businesses alive should never have padded fake payrolls and stolen identities.
Government-critical narrative
Suspending 870,000 borrowers sounds tough, but the fraud-detection analytics, inspector general audits and Justice Department task forces that flagged those loans were built between 2021 and 2024. Taking a victory lap for inherited machinery is rich, especially since the sloppy 2020 rollout that let the money walk out the door happened on Trump's watch.
