Grief is real, but it shouldn't launder a record. The woman receiving these warm regional condolences just claimed a second term with more than 97% of the vote after the main opposition candidates were blocked from the ballot. Her government has also deepened ties with Russia as Moscow expands its political and security footprint in Africa. Sympathy for a private family loss cannot become cover for a disputed election that stripped Tanzanians of a genuine choice.
