Hungary's new government claims to be a pro-freedom shift from Orbán, but it's already weaponized the police against conservatives. Seven officers raided a blogger's home at dawn, hauling him away in handcuffs over a harmless Facebook post that amounted to nothing more than political commentary. It's also fast-tracking constitutional changes to strip opposition Members of Parliament of their seats, and the EU, which spent years accusing Orbán of authoritarianism, is now quiet.
The "gold convoy" raid came directly from Viktor Orbán, who personally ordered the seizure of Ukrainian assets to score political points and distract from his own government's failures. Fidesz-linked media then pushed AI-generated smear images to make Ukrainian guards look like criminals. So not only did Szakács make a veiled threat of violence, but he did so in defense of a corrupt government the public chose to vote out of office.
