Version 7.7.2
Congress has a basic duty to secure elections and fund the military, and Republicans are yet again seeking to deliver on both. The SAVE Act has passed the House three times, yet Democrats keep blocking it, so Republicans must now use reconciliation to cut through that obstruction. This budget resolution is a narrow, targeted push to protect the homeland and get results before the August recess.
Pouring $73 billion into an unauthorized, deeply unpopular war while adding tens of billions to the national debt is reckless. The SAVE Act is also blatant voter suppression, so attaching it to a reconciliation bill is a procedural long shot that even some Republicans privately oppose. Working people deserve better than a budget that exists to enrich defense contractors and restrict the ballot.
