Ed Case's 20-point primary win over his DSA-backed challenger proves moderate Democrats can win on the merits, not just electability arguments. Democratic voters in a safe blue seat heard the far-left pitch and flatly rejected it. This is exactly the kind of result that should push the party toward candidates who appeal broadly rather than cater to ideological fringes.

Establishment-critical narrative

Ed Case's primary win doesn't prove much — progressive challenger Jarrett Keohokalole never got the resources or outside support needed to define the race. Hawaii voted for Bernie Sanders 65-35 in 2016, showing the progressive appetite is real. Without groups like WFP stepping in to define Case's conservative record, this result says more about organizing failures than voter ideology.
