Google announced a new feature for its Gemini AI on Wednesday titled Personal Intelligence. The development allows users to connect the service to Gmail, Google Photos, Search and their YouTube history to provide more personalized responses.

Personal Intelligence, which will launch as a beta in the U.S., will initially be available only to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers with personal Google accounts. Google will roll out access to the upgrade to these users over the next week.

Google clarified, however, that this would only be temporary and that the company was looking to expand the feature to more countries, as well as free-tier accounts, over time. The company added that Personal Intelligence will "soon" be added to AI mode in Search.

The tool is powered by Gemini 3 and a new Personal Intelligence engine, which enables the retrieval of information and reasoning across multiple complex sources. Together, the pair enable "true personalization" by tailoring answers to disparate personal details, using a method called "context packing."

Equipped with privacy features, Personal Intelligence is turned off by default, with users allowed to choose which apps to connect. Separately, Google clarified that Gemini does not train directly on Gmail inboxes or Google Photos libraries, but instead uses limited information, such as specific prompts and model responses.

Josh Woodward, the vice president of Google Labs, has written that the model has safeguards for sensitive topics but warned that users may encounter inaccurate responses, making wrong assumptions and misinterpreting relationships, or "over-personalization," where the system makes unrelated connections.

Google's Personal Intelligence is a transparent data grab disguised as convenience. The examples Google provides for users are laughable — such as needing AI to find tire sizes or license plates — and expose it for the data harvesting system that it is. Users would be better off waiting until Gemini is integrated into Apple before using it, given Apple's strict privacy guidelines.
