France: Raphaël Glucksmann Wins Social Democratic Presidential Primary
The Facts
- Raphaël Glucksmann, founder of political party Place Publique, won France's center-left presidential primary on Sunday in the first round with 66.13% of the vote. Socialist Party leader Olivier Faure came second at 14.46% and Ségolène Royal third at 7.62%.
- More than 120,000 people voted in the primary, or 88.88% of the 140,000 registered, after a cyberattack Friday slowed the online ballot. Turnout trailed the 2.8 million who took part in the Socialists' 2011 primary won by François Hollande.
- Speaking on France Inter on Monday, Glucksmann ruled out any alliance with Jean-Luc Mélenchon's La France Insoumise, including in parliamentary elections, saying more than 66% of primary voters had decided it. The party boycotted the primary.
